Other Places to Visit:

Northeastern Connecticut is know as "The Quiet Corner". Nestled away in the nooks and cranies and along side roads you can find a facinating variety of activities. Here are some suggestions for other interesting (or tasty) things to do all located within one-half hour of my studio and gallery space.

Still River Cafe

Spectrum

This is our favorite "special" place to eat out!

The New York times:"EXTRAORDINARY" (highest possible rating)
"Still River is beautiful -- a clean, white, airy space punctuated by 19th-century beams, set on a bucolic patch of Connecticut. The food is as lovely as the dining experience is pleasurable. But what gives palpable purpose to this excellence is the realization of the Brooks family's risky dream of living a Connecticut life defined by the largesse and the limitations of the land." A favorite place of ours to swim, hike and relax.  Download the hiking map from the website.  We especially recommend the hike up to Breakneck Pond followed by a refreshing swim in Mashpaug Lake.

During a snowy winter the cross country skiing and snow shoeing is wonderful.

Zagat Rated. Review highlights: Not many know that this award-winning winery in Pomfret also serves New American cuisine in a "quaint" setting that boasts two fireplaces along with 18th-century antiques making for a "wonderful dining experience."

www.HiddenBoston.com_“This impossibly funky Connecticut restaurant_is full of character (and characters),_and is truly in a class by itself.”

The Bean has been the forum for many types of entertainment. It started at our first "Java Jive", or open mic, in 1990. Over the years, we have hosted many benefits and provided space for many different genres of artistic presentation. It seemed that this type of entertainment, that is all based in the Folk Tradition, just wanted to be here.

Near Wood That Works "We were starving and the menu posed a dilemma: How does one choose from so many items? Although The Ugly Duckling is akin to a lounge for The Whistling Swan, the food is not pub cuisine. Simple fare is available, as are a few Americana dishes, but so are a number of more interesting meals. Families will enjoy the variety, which has appeal to both the adventurous and the finicky."
